The Importance of Upgrades in World of Warcraft
Upgrades are new items that boost your stats. They can be used to upgrade trinkets, armor and weapons.
Upgrades to items use a system known as "upgrade pity" to determine probabilities. This system is designed to reduce odds of luck and offer an adequate safety net when upgrading.
Armor
The item upgrader provides players with the ability to upgrade the levels of their armor, weapons and trinkets. The upgrades are applied to the gear through a visit to an item upgrader NPC with appropriate currencies. The stats of an item are upgraded when upgrading it.
This NPC can be found in all major cities and is located in the city's corner square, near a teleport point. The NPC can be utilized to upgrade any item of armor, weapon or trinket with the exception of items that require a quest to acquire or craft.
Note: The device you use to apply an upgrade is a consumable item for the duration of time. You cannot have multiple upgrades applied to a piece of equipment; trying to apply an upgrade on one that has already been applied will cause the previous upgrade to be overwritten.
Upgrade your gear is a great way to maximize the power of your gear and boost your damage, survival, and overall power. Weapons

Regardless of how you plan on using a particular weapon, it's important to keep in mind that it can be upgraded and change depending on your style of play.
You can upgrade weapons by visiting a blacksmith with a workbench for weapons. Blacksmith Hewg, located in the right wing area of the Roundtable Hold hub, is an excellent choice to upgrade your weapon. The player can only have one upgrade in play at any one time. If you attempt to upgrade your weapon while another upgrade is in use the upgrade will fail and the weapon will be restored to its original ilvl.
Upgrades do not just increase the value of an item, but also give it additional stats which can be used to boost its effectiveness. Some of these upgrades are passive, while others can provide greater damage, faster attack speed as well as increased range or strike chance.
Certain weapons can be upgraded to a higher level with an Ashes of War weapon, which is rewarded for defeating certain raid bosses. Other upgrades can be applied to weapons with Whetblades which are rare items that unlock new Affinities that you can infuse your weapon with.
After a weapon has been fully upgraded, the player can continue to upgrade it so long as he/she has the right upgrade materials and currency. Trinkets
Trinkets are a special item that offer a variety of Boosts. They can be upgraded just like other equipment, through direct interaction with the Item Upgrader.
